Daryl, Thanks for your reply. I see where you are coming from though I think it is a strech to reach the conclusions that you do on this issue. If you will remember back when the city coommission was considering moving the business route designation 131 from the downtown area, Mayor Lowry gave an impassioned, heartfelt plea to keep the designation in front of his store. This went against what was recommended by the good citizens that serve on the DDA and the Chamber of Commerce. He also said that night that he had invested about $1 million dollars in the downtown/his store. If he can get away with that legally, morally, ethically, and have that not be a conflict of interest, then I think Gretta is standing on very, very, very, firm ground. She has spent money out of her own pocket, taking time away from her family, to accomplish this house painting project. Mayor Lowry stood to benifit personally and finacially from his own actions right in broad public view of the whole city. Why that never got publicized by the TR Commercial or the media, is beyond me and if the citizens of this city can't see that, then they are not going to worry about this little painting project. What he did should have been big news, because what he did was wrong. Guess I'm just blowing off some steam.

Daryl Are you saying that it would have been a better choice to have the city bid the house painting job out and force the owner to pay possibly $3500 to have his house painted? I have a hard time seeing how some neighbors helping neighbors can have a negative effect on the city.

Please check my math here. The commission decided to give Commissioner Schermerhorn 45 days to have the house and the roofless garage painted in a proffessional manner. That meeting was Sept.3rd. 45 days from Sept.3rd is Oct.18. That leaves 19 days to go. Now mind you that there are a few hazards that will be encountered in this endeavour. The house next door to the house that will be painted has a couple of vicious dogs. They are in a pen and I hope like heck they don't jump the fence. They get on the roof of their dog house and it looks a little dangerous to me. The lawn in the back of the house has been mowed once this year. Their has to be critters out there. There is a forest growing next to the foundation of the house most every place. It will probably take a weekend to clear the land before we can get started. We will need a chainsaw, scaffolding,power washer, paint spayer,ladders just to mention some of the things that will be needed. The bushes will have to be tied back or something. The eves troughs are old and rusted. Do we take them off? There is a known woodchuck out there his name is Bob. I hope to have him grilled but am not sure when I should catch him.[:0]
