Hey Rumor Runner or Big Cat, I have a rumor for you to track down. I have heard through the grapevine that USDA has been MIA over at the Sheriff's Dept since the vote. Although I understand the unfortunate outcome for him, he does receive a paycheck for services to the county that we the taxpayers provide. I would hope these rumors are completely without merit and that the taxpayers are not paying the salary of an employee that is not fulfilling the job he was appointed to do. Thanks!

I think the obvious question here is which candidate has the capacity to be the best leader of St. Joseph County. Each individual that posts on this forum seems to define a good leader differently. I found an interesting article on how to identify a good leader. It really sets clear boundaries for the type of man capable of leading a community or a department. What Does A Leader Do? "Sometimes people confuse leadership with bossing. There's a huge difference. Study the qualities of good leaders and develop yourself as a good follower. You will soon learn that those who cannot obey, cannot command." 1. The boss drives men-- The Leader guides them. 2. The boss depends on authority-- The Leader on good will. 3. The boss creates fear-- The Leader develops confidence. 4. The boss assigns tasks-- The Leader sets the pace. 5. The boss says, "I"-- The Leader says, "We". 6. The boss says, "GO"-- The Leader says, "Let's GO". Author Unknown

Keith, Most managers would agree that promoting internal people to leadership positions, rather than searching externally, has many merits - it helps in recruiting and retention, and it promotes longevity and dedication from the current workforce. It helps the entire organization internalize the vision and values and history of the company, as well as promotes a sense of comradery. If you have an environment that encourages and rewards risk-taking, research, and continuous education, you should have plenty of fresh ideas among your current employees. Promoting from within can be a very bottom-line savvy tactic, as well as an ETHICALLY sound philosophy. Just a thought!!!

My father is a retired state trooper, so it really is exciting that things are finally looking up for them as far as more manpower!

Lakebrat, I can assure you there is no correlation between the St Joseph County Administration and the Cass county administration. I have first hand knowledge of the way Cass county treats their employees and it is 110% better than the way St. Joseph admin. treats their employees. Take a poll and you would find a much better satisfaction rate in Cass County than in St. Joe County. The current administration, although not perfect, at least tries to make an effort to ensure a working relationship among their employees. Unless you have worked their please try and be objective. Cass County really has an unbelievable Police force and they should all be proud!!!
