LFP Fire Station - New Cost

Three Rivers Area • Mar 3, 2008 9:10 AM

Originally posted by taxpayer Well, as far as more things to cut, it is my understanding that one of the three houses that they currently have is VACANT and has been for some time. I was also told by a fireman that the last person to live in that house was NOT even a firefighter! If they only have firefighters living in 2 of the 3 houses, why not tear down one of them and add space for the fire department on that space, with the empty lot between two of the houses, you would even have space for parking...sounds like that wold be ALLOT cheaper to accomplish. Taxpayer, please re-read what you wrote. There has never been a time when a non-member/firefighter has lived in the house. I cannot speak to what some other firefighter has said..but the FACT is, that it has not happened. All of the homes are currently being utilized by firefighter personnel at this time.

Taxpayer, your information is incorrect. The houses are being occupied by firemen and firemen only. All houses have been occupied for some time now and have never been occupied by non-firefighter personnel.

I dont mean to be short, but this conversation is going on and on and I am not sure its that productive. I tried to explain that where it was printed was at the request of a citizen. We utilize local businesses when ever AND where ever possible. Thanks for you concern.

Originally posted by trading tales I like how the LFP fire department wants the support of us local people...but as I look at the little card that was sent out...it was printed from PAW PAW Printing INC. Are you kidding me? They can't even support there own local business but they sure want all of our support! Maybe they haven't heard of Three Rivers Press on Pretzmen?! Sorry this bothers you..but a person who lives in our community asked to do this. They happen to work at Paw Paw Press. In a round about way, we did suport our community by suporting one of our citizens. There are some firefighters who either own buisnesses or work for someone and DO use local printers or businesses.

Lockport, thanks for your support. You certainly understand the demands of Duty time. I was a Duty Officer for 6 years. It does require quite a commitment. You are also right in that the new station will continue to allow us to provide quick response times and enough room for future demands of the fire service. As our population continues to increase and more and more business' come to Three Rivers, the need for more apparatus may arise. It is important to not only have the equipment, but a place to put it. Our building now is crammed tight. We literally have inches between the trucks and the building. It is no secret that we have hit our mirrors on the side of the building. As also a tax payer in Lockport, I want to make sure that our investment into equipment is protected and not inadvertently damaged due to not having an appropriate sized building. Whether you support the new station or not, we at Lockport-Fabius-Park Fire Department have always appreciated your support!
