How's my driving?

gjothesen, I would like to address a couple of points from your original post. ---------------------------------- So you are for punishing someone to prevent them from committing a crime? Pre-crime? IE, causing an accident is a crime; driving recklessly and then injuring someone is a crime; just simply speeding is not a real crime. ----------------------------------- By this method of thinking, it isn't illegal to produce drugs unless you get could using/selling them. It wouldn't be illegal to sell alcohol to a minor unless they drank it. It wouldn't be illegal to hire a hit man to kill your spouse, as long as they failed to do the job. ------------------- As for the autobahn if you have ever driven there you would know they are extremely safe. ------------------- I spent 5 yers in Germany, and drove the Autobohn countless times. When they have an accident there, it involves HUNDREDS of vehicles. And it isn't an accident. They drive too fast on purpose. I have just made a run on highway 94 today, and there were many people setting along the road looking at there cars/SUV's/pickups off the road buried in snow. One was on it's side, and rescue was tending the injured. I am sure they felt safe driving at the speed they were traveling also. It's amazing how many accidents occur because of over confidence in one's ability. Mother nature can be a real bitch sometimes and no matter how great a driver you are, how solid your car, or how tough you feel you are, you'll loose some day. Just ask the expert race drivers in their multi-million dollar cars, on a closed track with no wild animals, holes in the road, etc, if the unplanned doesn't happen on a regular basis. Some day your reckless disregard for your and other's safety is going to catch up with you. I just hope you don't take some innocent kids and/or parents with you.

Drug Busts O'Plenty in the County

I'm with you farmgirl. I'm all for a fair justice system, but I think a better tactic with be feeding them into a woodchipper. A couple of events of that nature would change the minds of more than a few of the dimwits, I'll bet. I know. Not a very politically correct solution. It would still be a better way to go that what would happen to them if they poisoned one of my kids with that crap. Sorry for the outburst, but I worry about my family all the time, and it just seems to be getting worse is this area, even with the great work that the police agencies have accomplished lately. How about a national campaign to rename drugs to something more appropriate. Like "stupid pills", or "moron juice". Or maybe something like a "too stupid to know better" fix. As far as income being a factor, there are many "poor" people out there surviving without manufacturing poison, robbing gas stations, or breaking into other people's homes. We continue to associate crime with being "poor". Instead, we should associate it with being "stupid" and "lazy". Being "poor" can be a consequence of being "stupid" and "lazy", but being "poor" doesn't mean you are "stupid" and "lazy". Just my little bit of personal wisdom. Thanks for listening.

Gas prices over $3.00 a gallon?!!

True, if we conserve it can cause a drop in fuel prices. However, this would be short lived. There are many other reasons for fuel price increases. A war in the oil producing countries for one. I believe we should consider the ultimate results of continued use of oil, to the exclusion of the serious development of renueable and/or unlimited resources such as solar energy col1ectors, wind and ocean wave generators, etc. I am happy to see some of the developments in the automotive industry, incorporating electrical drives with fuel powered engines, thereby increasing fuel efficiencies; the ability to burn alternate fuel sources available from renewable resources, such as ethanol; better grades of rubber, increasing gas milage, as well as durability. But, if we consider the current rate of growth (worldwide), and increasing industrialization of third world countries, how long before gas is $20 a gallon? How long before we have to put oil derecks in out national parks, our precious swamps, along our shores. I would like to see a tax on fuel that funds the study of alternatives. I hate increasing the cost at the pumps as much as anybody. However, if we can come up with some forms of energy that conserves our oil resourses, the price will drop back down. Additional, we will ensure the future generations have energy without pollution that is renewable and abundant. Just my opinion.
