" Pepa: Would you say that these individuals were unqualified for the jobs? If they were qualified then whats the problem? It just so happens that Bippus bleongs to a very large church. He knows a lot of people there(I assume)and he's bound to run into people in the membership that apply for positions in the city. He certainly can't discriminate against them. What do you expect? If he was the manager of an electrical company I'm sure there would be a few electricians on his staff that go to his church also. I'm just lost on this one. Is this your conspiracy theory?

I too was going to mention the Whistler Blower act but didn't think it applied to this situation. The reason, I believe, this doesn't apply is that the community had full knowledge or at least the opportunity to have full knowledge of what was going on. In other words, there was no disclosure. It was merely one persons strong beliefs...

LEW, you're stating the obvious. Of course every citizen has that right. I'm waiting for your response to a question that I posted earier. Can you tell me what employer wouldn't reprimand an employee for doing what Blaine did? If you can't, then why blame the City for it's actions? City employees have no fewer rights than employees in the private sector when it comes to freedom of speech. Take any employee from any organization, get him/her to write a letter to the paper with scathing criticisms against his boss(s) and see what happens. Just because the employer in this case is a govening body and the topic involved taxpayer issues, it doesn't mean an employee can go bashing his superiors in public. He is an employee plain and simple. It has nothing to do with whether someone has broad shoulders or not. It has everything to do with an employee undermining the system of Employee, Supervisor, City Manager and City Commission.

I think you and the City both took a loss on this one. I'm sure everyone involved is aware of the fallout. On a positive note, I have seen ex-employees rehired in the past. Give it some thought, talk to some people, come up with a plan of action and go for it...
