Wal-Mart

Well, Wal-Mart has only been open for a little over a year, so it's difficult to gauge its effects yet. Having said that, it's pretty easy to see that Village Market closed as Wal-Mart was opening, leaving us with only two local grocery stores (if you include Meijer)--and none on the north side of town. And I know several businesses downtown have struggled. While some of that is attributable to the economic downturn, we can also assume that some of the finite resources in town have been diverted to the new Wal-Mart. I can't speak to the effects on surrounding towns, but I'd be surprised if they've been affected positively. So no, my opinion hasn't changed. :)

Wal-Mart

I don't have a lot of time to post right now, but I want to make a quick clarification. Tom Lowry has been the only city council member to actively oppose Wal-Mart during this entire process, primarily because he knows that it will ultimately be a bad choice for the community and for the city (and not because he is concerned, primarily, for his own business). Joe Bippus, whom you've continually cited in your rants as being a "good ol' boy" opposed to Wal-Mart because it lines his own pockets, has always been in favor of Wal-Mart and has worked hard to ensure it arrives without delay. Please stop making up opinions for people based on your own and start assuming that everyone in this process is operating with the best intentions until proven otherwise. It makes the conversation more profitable.
